Ortona Luncheon
From Fred Rolland:
Mark your calendar and let’s meet on Friday December 22, 2023 at Royal Pizza on 99 Ave and 178 Street, Edmonton, for lunch and Christmas cheer. This date coincides with the Battle of Ortona (Dec 20 – 27, 1943) and is the 80th Anniversary. The 22nd was chosen this year as Doug Flint is coming up from the N.W.T. and Henry Vanderpyle from Coaldale, and this day worked best for them. Sometimes the weekend is preferred but that would have been Christmas Eve and the day before. I have reserved a separate dining area from 11:30 – 2:00 pm. and Madoc Finch the owner is a Member of the Regiment and has put up an L.E.R. Flag when we’ve dined their in the past. I’m hoping you can all make it. Please try to arrive by 11:30 so we can all order as a group. Of special note we also had a very special member of the Regiment show up last year. Commanding Officer LCOL Christopher Barr CD who was very impressed with our group and especially when Madoc Finch supplied the wine Gratis for the gathering… Farnese Sangiovese Red Wine Bottled in Ortona Italy!! Please let me know if you’ll be attending. I sent 55 invites as well as notify the museum. In the past luncheon I’ve organized over the past 10 years we generally have 18 to 25 in attendance. Good chance you’ll see some familiar faces you haven’t seen in many years. Ian Edwards will again be bringing copies of his Book “Our Quarrel With The Foe” and will sign them for You. They’re 60.00 dollars and he requires personal check or cash only. (Great Xmas Present to buy for yourselves guys)
Please R.S.V.P. so I have numbers for seating. Cheer’s…. Fear No Foe!!!!
